Indianapolis Gold Star Families Memorial Monument
Coming soon to Downtown Indianapolis!
The purpose of the Gold Star Families Memorial Monument is to honor Gold Star Families, preserve the memory of the fallen, and stand as a stark reminder that
Freedom is not free.
It is a tribute to those who made
the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom
and those they left behind.
The Indianapolis Gold Star Families Memorial Monument will commemorate the valor and sacrifice of all Hoosier veterans of our nation's conflicts and their families left behind. The number of Indiana families and survivors affected by the loss of a loved one is unquantifiable.
A Gold Star Family member can be any relative: mother, father, stepmother, stepfather, adoptive or foster parents, wife, husband, child, stepchild, adopted child, brothers, sisters, half brothers or sisters, grandparents, grandchildren, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces or nephews who have sacrificed a Loved One for our Freedom including families who have lost a loved one from the symptoms and illness directly connected to their military service.
The Gold Star Families Memorial Monument will represent Hoosiers who died in service to our country from all war periods: Revolutionary War, the War of 1812, the Mexican War, the Civil War, the Frontier Wars, the Spanish-American War, WWI, WWII, Korean War, Vietnam Era, Gulf War and any future Hoosiers who may give their life in service to our country.
This stunning black granite monument features two sides. One side bears the words: Gold Star Families Memorial Monument, a tribute to Gold Star Families and Relatives who have sacrificed a Loved One for our Freedom. The other side tells a story through the four granite panels: Homeland, Family, Patriot, and Sacrifice. The scenes on each panel are a reflection of each community’s Gold Star Families and their fallen Heroes. At the center of this tribute is the most distinct feature of the monument, the cut out which represents the Loved One who paid the ultimate sacrifice in the name of Freedom.
The Indianapolis Gold Star Families Memorial Monument Committee is planning to build a memorial in the downtown area.
